Pic 1 - Chieftain Pic 2 - Centurion Pic 3 - Ferret Pic 4 - AFV 432 APC Pic 5 - AFV 432 Recovery and repair Pic 5 is a FV434 with the 2-ton HIAB crane. One of the local nightclubs in Newcastle has at least one FV432 "Trojan" as a rolling advertising board (!) - it can be heard rattling around the streets of the city occasionally with big banners strung down each side! I used to be an armoured vehicle enthusiast....

Armoured vehicles,ships,planes-bet you like trains too G Funnily enough, Gary, trains have never really done much for me! Planes, tanks and ships have always been more interesting! Like this: Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser CG-61 USS Monterey, departing Gare Loch for Neptune Warrior 06/2, June 2006. She had the SH-60B pictured running interference against the 'terrorist speedboats' onboard, which I managed to get low-level. Graeme

Nice picture Graeme. Why do the more modern ships have these big flat section designs(please don't say this ship is 40 years old).I noticed one of ours that was launched recently had a similar sort of design. Please excuse my ignorance in all things water related.

More like 17 - she was commissioned in 1990. The boxy superstructures found on modern warships stem from a few reasons - radar cross-section and ease of construction (modular design) being the major ones. A more basic box-like design cuts down on the number of 'sharp' edges and reduces the radar cross-section. The Tico-class cruisers were also built in modules and then (almost) welded together, making the construction process quicker and cheaper - the Royal Navy's new Type 45 destroyers (I believe you referred to one in your post) are being built in a similar way. Yep, Daring is the lead ship of the five Type 45s. Here's a shot of the HSL-46 SH-60B Seahawk from Monterey:
