Also myself will be splashing out on SBS in the new year, I have been told that all mil aircraft have to be mode S compliant by 2010 so things are looking up.

My good mate has one and he loves the thing.. I must confess to knowing 'sod all' about it. but its really cool looking at the screen and he knows what most of them are up there with the Mk2 version you can listen as well as see them as certain scanners plug into the SBS box also you can extend the range to about 80 miles - the screen is full of em when he does that LOL
if you need to know any thing in paticular about these things let me know and I will ask him anything you would like to know at all cheers Chris

So how much does this cost and does it pick up military traffic?

Last time I saw it the price was £500 for the SBS box, and no unfortunatly at this point in time it does not pick up military planes but apparently in the next couple of years even the military will have to have the signature that SBS boxes will see which will be pretty cool
although it sounds totally ridiculous that Joe Bloggs can buy a box from a store that can track an airforce jet

I have had sbs now installed for 2 weeks and got to say its amazing stuff, if not rather expensive. If you are interested in this side of the hobby go out and buy it....
