Been asked to post this relating to Low Flying aircraft and the Foot and Mouth outbreak, common sense really but worth remembering.
As most will already be aware, a case of Foot and Mouth Disease has been confirmed on a small holding near Guildford yesterday prompting widespread alarm amongst the Farming Community, in particular those connected with the livestock industry. This has already had a knock on effect with Agricultural Shows being affected. All movements of livestock throughout the UK have been rightly banned and Farm and Estate staff have been issued with strict instructions on their movements around the countryside. Be well advised therefore, our presence on the hills throughout next week and indeed until this sorry episode is concluded, may well be frowned upon. The problem is that the disease can be transmitted on the soles of peoples boots and on vehicle tyres. It can therefore be spread unwittingly. In the meantime, we all have a duty to act responsibly. If you are asked to leave hillsides by farmers or their agents then please take heed, or if disinfectant baths are provided, then use them. I need not remind anybody that during 2001, the good people of Cumbria suffered dreadfully - over 800 cases were identified throughout the County, the local economy being ruined in the process.
