Have spent a couple of days on various hillsides in (faint) hope of seeing the Su-30s at low level. Reasonably sure now, from what I've heard, that they won't be doing anything like that. Anyway, Monday morning, headed down to Dunmail. When I arrived around 0900 it was completely clouded out. Gave up waiting and headed for Tebay. Missed something as I was climbing up the road to the mast: got the following Hawk shortly after arrival (1125). As you can see, the conditions weren't too grand. Nothing else until the afternoon - a Tucano at 1540, which I nearly missed due to the clag, plus he was well over the other side of the valley: Ever the sucker, I returned today and managed a day on both sides of Dunmail Raise. However, the movements didn't improve. A weather ship Hawk rattled over Grasmere at around 0845 but headed west of Dunmail - probably gave base a poor report as there was ab zero until 1430 when this Hawk blasted through: One civvie helicopter did overfly north-south at around 1025 though - does anyone know from where/to? Plus, a Navy SAR Sea King appeared from Rydal Water at around 1400 and headed north over Grasmere, only to turn sharp left and head for Langdale. And that was it - I missed another Hawk at around 1620 but I was down the bottom of the hill by then. Graeme

Shame those Sukhoi's couldn't be tempted to do low level, would of looked rather good at Dunmail. Nice piccies all the same though.

There's apparently a few reasons why they won't/can't come down low in the UK but I'm not going into them on an open forum.
