A LARGE-SCALE Ministry of Defence exercise has been scheduled for South-west Scotland between September 25 and October 17, involving both military aircraft and a substantial number of ground troops.
Named ‘Joint Warrior’, the exercise will involve elements of the 16 Air Assault Brigade, including the 3rd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, and the public have been warned to expect a substantial amount of fixed wing and helicopter flying, particularly in the vicinity of West Freugh, and Castle Kennedy airfields, where there will also be a major parachute drop.
The exercise will include concentrated tactical activity by ground troops between 3 and 14 October in the vicinity of New Luce, the Galloway Forest area, and north east of Dalbeattie. Routine movement of vehicles between these areas can be expected, as Joint Warrior will involve deployment of approximately 600 combat troops and 700 support personnel.
Use of these areas will include blank ammunition and battle simulation.
