Yet another of the RAF displays have been withdrawn from the 2007 season.
This was posted on UKAR earlier tonight.
Well, I was rather hoping not to have to do this but it appears that bad news travels fast and someone has forced my hand.
After very careful consideration and consultation, OC 28(AC) Sqn has decided to withdraw the Merlin Mk3 flying display for the 2007 season. It is not my prerogative to print or discuss the reasoning behind this decision.There will be a statement published shortly by OC 28 on the Team Merlin website, which will hopefully go some way to explaining the decision.
As you can imagine, the team and I are pretty gutted by this but the fact of the matter is we all knew it was a risk.
However, my intention is to keep Team Merlin running as best as I can, all be it in a lesser role. The Sqn will, where possible, endeavour to send a static Merlin to as many venues that still invite us so you can still come and chat and have a close up look at the aircraft.
I still intend to keep the website running (with Dan & Paul's help) with a slightly different format. We will try and add any pictures and images we get sent as a record of our appearances. I also intend to open the online shop and to bring some merchandise along to the shows.
At the shows, there will be more of a ground based Merlin theme with lots of gizzits to be had.
As a note to any organisers reading this post, if you have not heard from JHC already then you will do very shortly. Could I ask that if you would like Team Merlin and a Merlin at your show as a static then please let them know asap? I can make requests but ultimately it is their decision. Please bear in mind we are able to land in fairly small areas!
::
If you have any general questions I would be more than happy to answer them if I can, but please refrain from asking me any questions regarding the decision making process. As I said at the beginning I will be posting a statement from OC 28(AC) Sqn as soon as I can.
For the same reasons that there is no display, there will be no Merlin flying as part of the RAF Air Power demo or the RAF Spirit of Adventure event.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but hopefully we can salvage something out of this.
With regards,
Gareth
