Hmmm, interesting, i would guess as you have a great ariel it wont make that much difference. But when it comes to scanners i'm certainly no expert.

I couldn't help there much either Mike, I have a VR500 hand held which I've had a few months and it seems well made with a lot of features in a tiny case, but both the sets you are considering look real nice and both are reputable makes, who have been in the game a long time.
They both seem to cover the full band spectrum & I suppose it comes down to price and which has the most features you would actually find useful. Even that little hand held of mine has some features which I have yet to use.
One feature I have found useful, which both those you are looking at are likely to have , is the ability to programme it and manage it via your computer with the relevant cable & software. I thought it was something I'd not use , but it is very handy.

It seems that the Yaesu VR5000 as bad feedback going by other users and realy hard to use, I am leaning more towards the Aor 8600 at this moment in time...

You don't want anything that you have to get the handbook out to every time you want to do something.
I modified my post above while you were replying , Mike, the bit about computer connectivity.

Hi Mike, I would say the Yaesu Vr5000 as a few blokes i know that i speak to on the CB said they are really good and have great features.
If i was to buy one i could go for the Yaesu because if i knew there was such a type like that i would have bought it from the part.
