Actually, Chris, this may well be on-topic, since it will undoubtedly affect low-level photographers in the Lakes.
Farmers won't take too kindly to people walking on the hills if there's a chance of spreading the infection to their livestock.
Even forested areas might not be unaffected, as deer can carry the disease as well.
I hope it doesn't spread either, but there's already a ban on livestock movements in place on the whole British mainland. It could have spread already and not be noticed. At least this time it's down south, so less chance of reaching this area.

I've just seen Rons post on Warplane and acted accordingly. Just wondering what to do as regards to Monday are you still venturing out?

Not now. I don't think the farmer at the bottom end of Thirlmere would be too happy with people climbing up to the crags, and even the trees around Raven Crag have been known to have deer walking around - they're cloven hoof animals as well, which can spread the disease. Whilst I don't think F&M has reached this far north yet, why antagonise the local landowners? We want to go back there again and again, after all.
I think the most prudent course of action would be to stay away from the hills completely until the all-clear is given. The same goes for Spadeadam - I doubt Hunter would appreciate people being close to his flocks at the moment.
Thanks for re-posting Ron's posting on Warplane - he rang me this afternoon to let me know that farmers along the Selkirk-to-Moffat Valley have asked that no-one goes onto the hills along there until things get sorted out. Sensible.

I agree with you Guys , it would be sensible to keep away until we know how bad things are with the F&M. Lets suport our farmers and landowners, and just hope that this does not spread.
cheers Mike
