Mike
Are you sure you can only get 2mbit? I only found out by accident a couple of months ago that I could get faster speeds. My exchange at High Harrington was always one of the last to be converted so it might be worth checking. If you go to the virgin broadband site they have a checker on there that uses your post code/phone number to tell you what speed your line is capable of receiving.

The maximum upload speed through a BT line on an 8mb connection is 448 so your reading of 383 is very good! Upload speed is used to upload data to other users such as when you connect to a p2p like winmx or limewire. When a user connects to your computer to download a file from you you would upload it to them at a rate of 383 out of a maximum potential of 448. It is your download speed that is important and your download speed is just as good as mine www.DslZoneuk.net is another great site for speed tests and info ;D
