I thought Port William was a lot further North than that, ah well you learn a new thing every day. Port William is on the eastern side of Luce Bay - not a huge distance as the crow flies from Whitehaven! I used to go and watch the old 'Northern Lights' amphibious exercises just north-west of there years ago. As Yellowbelly says, there's also Fort William, between Oban and Inverness (in the shadow of Ben Nevis).
