Not quite. I am saying that the PCN - if it is indeed 31 - is not an issue at all; although the runway is a bit on the short side! Carlisle airport personnel informed the crew that 'a Nimrod would not be landing at Carlisle this year'. This was, I believe, based on ongoing discussions between the museum and the airport operator - about what, I do not know. At this point it became apparent that it was unlikely that a Nimrod would make it to Carlisle.

You've got it in one Carlisle watcher - so I hear . Ability to maintain is a major issue so unless they, the Museum, recruit members who will actually get off their butt and help they are fighting an uphill battle to maintain their aircraft. I know some of the lads up there and it's the same 10 or so suspects that do all the work despite a healthy membership list. So join up and pitch in and help if you are at all concerned about the aircraft at the Museum - I for one will be signing up for work on the aircraft this summer

carlislewatcher, It was SAM who were asking permission of airport management to host the Nimrod and it was airport management who were doing the refusing. My understanding is that SAM made the people at Kinloss aware of this. So the doubts about long term maintenance were not SAMs but Carlisle Airport management's. SAM have managed to keep the Vulcan for 27 years - enough said. ;D If you guys really want to help start writing to Andrew Tinkler at Stobarts outlining the case for a Nimrod at Carlilse and what an attraction it would be. Now if we could just harness some of the hot air around here and point it to Stobarts we'd be on a winner. So far Chris has been the only man of action and I'm about to follow him by writing.

Muttley,
I'd be interested to see the reply from Stobart. The previous answer included information that would not have prevented a Nimrod landing at Carlisle.

You are probably all aware that the last Nimrod MR2 retained in a flying condition landed at Kent International Airport (Manston) on Wednesday 26 May 10. The only way that Carlisle will get one now is on a low-loader from Kinloss - or from Waddington same time next year!
Good luck,
