Yes you have read the title right, i first got a hint when Tesco staff were not allowed to book the August bank holiday off, so i done a bit of digging and from a source of a friend who shall remain nameless...
''Due building works on the harbour, existing and planned, the room available for the usual June Maritime Festival is somewhat restricted. However - do not despair!! As I understand it - on V.G. authority, plans are afoot for something a little later on in Summer - utilising what harbour space available and town centre. I believe there is every intention to have a Maritime event (reduced due above) with compensatory activities in town. I promise to keep you posted as things are confirmed''.
Not sure if this will have any aviation content but if not it's still nice to see things are happening behind the scenes.

Got an e-mail from the horses mouth so to speak...
Chris Sorry for the late reply. We are planning an event and those dates are one of three potential weekends. Hopefully something public by the end of February

For those who have not seen it in the local papers the 'Whitehaven Festival' will now be taking place on the 8th & 9th August. Negotiations are taking place to bring up Hawker Hunter XE601 that couldn't make it for the Queens visit. Other displays are being looked at.
