25 sq at RAF Leeming will be disbanded on 30th April 2008, quite fancy a 9 ship take off from the end of the runway, that would be slightly noisy i'm guessing.

My first ever visit to a base (Leeming) was with you guys (Gary pilot). When the first GR4 took off over our heads I could not beleive the noise, I think a 9 ship would be something else and rather sad at the same time.

Its actually a 10 or sometimes 11 aircraft launch as there is always a spare when they do a Diamond nine. Having had the chance to witness a couple of these yes it does get very very very noisy.

Does that just leave the Hawks and Tutors at Leeming for the future then?

Possibly, the future for Leeming is still up in the air, there are several rumours being floated around at the moment....
1- Move the Red Arrows to Leeming.
2- Move most of the Pumas, Merlins and Chinooks to Leeming because of the proximity of Otterburn and Spadeadam training areas.
3- Move a couple of Typhoon squadrons to Leeming rather than send them to Leuchars because it would be cheaper, but Leuchars is the preferred location.

It would be nice to see the typhoons there.

I noticed over on the Fighter Control forum is mntion that the runway at Leeming is to be extended, presumably something to do with the Indians last summer and the runway being too short. Also more rumours that 6sq will reform on the Typhoon there and the OCU might go there too. Could be interesting.
