I would be interested to know what internet providers you use, I am looking to shop around. Presently using Tiscali at £14.99 a month for 2meg. Also is there away you can check what speed your line can take.

There are plenty of different speed check sites out there - a Google search should find you a fair few.

BE unlimited. £18 a month and pretty much unlimited (connection is fully utilised up/down 24/7 and they've never come the 'fair use policy' angle with me). From home (6.4km of wire from the exchange 2.2km away) I get the equivalent of 4meg down and 1.2 meg up. From former home 1km of wire from the exchange I got 21meg down on the same BE 'contract' (their 'unlimited' contract is monthly not yearly). BE do a cheaper option and i might change to that at some point as I will never get much above 4meg with 6.4km of wire.
I also use Nildram/Pipex and have found them to be excellent though a bit more expensive for static IP addresses. Can't remember off-hand how much I pay for that but it is similar to BT but with the addition of excellent customer support.
The only ISP that I've found is better was U-Net in the good old days.
