Hello folks! My name is Shaun Connor, recently moved to Walney Island to fly King Airs. Interested in aviation photography (particularly military). Interested in finding out about the best places in Cumbria to see some aviation action. Anyone want to drop me an e-mail, then please do so. Cheers!

Hi Shaun, welcome aboard . As for finding some aviation action in Cumbria thats quite difficult unless you like spending days up the sides of mountains and then you have to be lucky. Best waiting for the show at Walney in the summer, or occaisonally you can get a good exercise at Spadeadam, but they are few and far between.

Hello Chris, thanks for the reply. Spadeadam a bit far from Walney. Took a few pics of low level stuff through in the M6 pass and Thirlmere. Any busy low level routes closer to Walney than those? Guess that sort of activity is best saved for summer months! Direct e-mail is vickersfour@aol.com. Quite a few light aircraft and gliders based here at Walney, if you are into that sort of stuff. Does Eskmeals every get any aircraft using the range or is it just a firing range? Anyway, kettles boiled! Bye for now. Shaun

Hi Guys,
Just to introduce myself, My name is Max, I live in Fleet in Hampshire, about a mile from Farnborough International (very handy for Airshow). Been into photography for many years, Very pleased with the move to digital. I currently have a Canon 10D & an old 35-350L Series lens which, although battered, is a great lens for aircraft.
Cheers Max

Hi Chris,
Alas not, the last time was Oct '05 & it rained solid for 4 days. We never saw the tops of the hills & our cottage was almost swamped. We mostly do Wales as it is closer. I'd like to come to Cumbria again, I will have to plan it for the summer & hope for good weather.
Cheers Max

Hi - PeteD from York. Mil Air enthusiast for many years, having attended many airshows as a youngster, now got my 9-year old into it also. 2 scanners - AR3000a base & AR8000 hand held. Plenty of traffic from Linton & Fenton & Leeming & Dishforth, unfortunately have to work during the day ! Frequent the Lake District as often as possible - for walking & low fly, family holidays mainly camping in Keswick / Ravenglass - family happy to walk up a hill & watch - eg Raven Cragg last Aug for the day, St Johns in the Vale, Causey Pike, Buttermere etc. Luckily work takes me from York to Carlisle, so I can detour & so have spent a few hours at Spade on works time - which is useful cos have seen very little action there. Have made a couple of trips to Donna Nook last year for the A10s. Great site Chris - keep up the good work Thanks Pete, York

Chris, Glad to see you have a 'Cumbrian aviation site' up an running. Thanks for the welcome message. I currently live in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. I would much rather be in Brampton, Cumbria! I am originally from Dalton-in-Furness and did some flying out of Walney way back in 1988! I have been flying on and off since I was 17 (1980)and have flown commercially here in Canada as a 'bush pilot', instructor and latterly with the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association. I qualified for the UK commercial licence in 2001 but 9/11 put a dent in my ambitions to fly for a living in the UK. 'Vickers Four' has my dream job, flying for a living and in Cumbria to boot! Incidentally, I will be back in the UK this Summer and will be taking in 'Flying Legends', Breighton and it is no accident that I will be at Walney on 28th July. I have included a link to a clip taken in November last year where I am flying as number 3 in the formation and performing the 'missing man' during a fly past for a military parade. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Regards, Tony. www.harvards.com/HARVARD-MISSINGMAN.wmv
